Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated water aerodromes and the first seaplane service between the Statue of Unity site at Kevadiya colony to the Sabarmati Riverfront .
PM Modi travelled on the maiden seaplane flight from Kevadia to Sabarmati. The flight connects Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad to Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Narmada district. Seaplane service covers 200km, reducing the travel time to 45 minutes from the usual four hours by road.

In Ahmedabad, the water aerodrome will be Sabarmati River while in Kevadia, the officials have identified a lake locally known as “Panchmukhi Lake”. It is also known as “Magar Talav” for the crocodile population in the lake. There were reports of forest department shifting hundreds of crocodiles out of their habitat to other places.

✈Seaplane Ahmedabad to Statue of Unity Flight Timings
SpiceJet Seaplane flight Ahmedabad to Statue of Unity is starting from October 31. SpiceJet announced on Wednesday that it will operate two daily seaplane flights between the Sabarmati riverfront in Ahmedabad and the Statue of Unity at Kevadia in Gujarat from Saturday, 31st October 2020, on the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.
The aircraft will depart from the Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad at 10:15 am and will reach the Statue of Unity, Kevadia at 10:45 am. The return flights from Kevadia to Ahmedabad are scheduled at 11:45 am and 3:15 pm respectively.
The duration of each flight would be around 30 minutes.

✈ An official release said that Gujarat government signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Union Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), and Airports Authority of India on July 22 to start the ‘first-ever seaplane services in Gujarat to provide seamless and affordable air connectivity from Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity, Kevadia. The kind of service is first ever in the country.”
✈ The distance of 220 km from Sabarmati to the Statue of Unity will be covered in just 45 minutes by sea plane.
✈ Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company, which is overseeing the seaplane project, said the airlines have so far sought two aircraft on lease.
✈ Spice Shuttle, will be using a 15-seater Twin Otter 300 aircraft that has been wet-leased from Maldivian Aero, Maldives’ national airline.
✈ Currently the aircraft will operate as a non-scheduled flight and all flights will be scheduled after one year if there is a good response from the passengers.
✈ Landing and take off facilities are being provided at Sabarmati river as well as at Pond-3 at Kevadia, the aircraft will land from east to south at both the places.
