‘American Idol’ Season 18 has finally come to an end with the announcement of the season’s winner. Just Sam has won the show. Just Sam won season 18 of American Idol on Sunday during a remotely-filmed finale due to the coronavirus pandemic.
‘My dreams have come true,’ Sam said as her grandmother could be seen celebrating from afar.
First up was Dillon James who performed Eric Clapton’s “Change the World” to much praise from judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.
After that, Francisco Martin took on Harry Styles’ tune “Adore You” and was commended for his improved stage presence.
Just Sam turned to former Idol champ Kelly Clarkson for her performance of “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You),” giving the tune her own special twist that earned high praise from the show’s judges.
Arthur Gunn was up next, singing Gavin DeGraw’s “I Don’t Want to Be,” impressing the judges with his powerful rendition.
And Jonny West finished out Round 1 strong with his version of “You Can’t Keep a Good Man Down.”
Just Sam, a New York City subway singer who lived with her grandmother, became the 18th winner of “American Idol.” She beat out runner-up Arthur Gunn, a Nepalese immigrant who lives in Kansas.
The other three finalists were all just as deserving of the crown: country singer Dillon James, singer-songwriter Jonny West and emotive pop singer Francisco Martin.
