TRAI’s new rules for DTH & Cable TV: Here’s How to Choose DTH Package For Airtel Digital TV, Tata Sky, Dish TV, D2h, Hathway, GTPL and more have announced their channel prices under the new TRAI rules
Telecom Regulatory Authority of India’s (TRAI) deadline for consumers to migrate to plans under the new framework for broadcasting and cable services has now ended on 1st Feb 2019.
Now new DTH rules come into effect, and consumers need to select the channels they prefer, choose a custom package, and pay only for those selected channels.
All major DTH providers like Tata Sky, Dish TV, Airtel Digital TV, D2h, Hathway, GTPL and more have announced their channel prices under the new TRAI rules, and users can go to their respective websites or get in touch with your cable operator to make the selection.
The MRP of NCF as prescribed is maximum Rs. 130 per month plus 18 per cent GST will apply, This rental includes the carriage of 100 TV channels.You can select any FTA channel, pay channel or a bouquet(s) of pay channel as per your choice. If you want to increase the capacity (because you want to watch more than 100 channels), you can do so by paying an additional amount of Rs. 20 for 25 additional channels capacity or a part thereof. As an example, suppose you want to watch 110 channels, you may be charged an amount not exceeding Rs 150 (Rs 130 + Rs 20)per month. If you want to watch 150 channels, you pay another 20 rupees for the slab 125-150 channels.
TV Channels come in two flavours from the price point. Some are free and others are paid channels. The MRP of paid channels is shown in rupees per month.No money’s paid for free to Air (FTA) channels which are 534 in number at present.

To make sure that the transition happens smoothly across the country, TRAI has come up with some solutions for both service providers and subscribers.
In case of subscribers, if they witness rogue behaviour from their DTH service provider, they are requested to report the incident to TRAI. Subscribers can reach out to TRAI’s call centre at 0120-6898689 or send an email to [email protected].
How to choose Airtel Digital TV DTH channels plans and packs:
Airtel users can select their channels or packs on the company’s official site or MyAirtel app. Visit Website: https://www.airtel.in/ click on banner Watch what you like! Choose from new DTH plans as per TRAI’s new guidelines on the ad and users will be prompted to log in to their account.
Once logged in, users will be displayed three options to choose from – Airtel Recommended Packs, Broadcaster packs, and Ala-Carte
There is also a way to activate channel packs by scanning QR code on their TV using phone’s camera or third-party QR code scanner app. Once users select their monthly channels or packs, they can activate their selection by scanning a QR code on their TV and send it to 54325. The pack will automatically get activated starting February 1.
How Tata Sky Users Choose New DTH Pack:
If you are a Tata Sky subscriber, you can now head over to the company website, application, or their nearest Tata Sky dealer to get help about migrating to the new packs.
Open Tata Sky’s main portal: https://www.tatasky.com/wps/portal. Click on the “Click Here” tab to enter the portal for selecting your DTH packs. You can also login via Tata Sky official app for Android and iOS. and login using registered mobile number or your subscriber ID.
User will see three options to choose recommended Packs, which are the packs suggested by Tata Sky based on your location and preferences; Tata Sky Packs, which will have all the packs from Tata Sky; and All Packs and Channels, which will have packs created by broadcasters and all channels, as per à la carte basis. and enjoy your DTH entertainment.
How Dish TV user select new DTH plans and packs:
Dish TV was one of the first DTH operators to announce its channel prices. To custom choose your channels, head to the company website – https://www.dishtv.in/ or a Dish TV dealer for selection purposes. The website, once you login, lets you select your channels of preference.
